Well, the tuffs only welded out to about 60 miles (that's 800 Centigrade or thereabouts). OTOH, the cumulative ashfall effects are predicted to be about LD50 out to 600 miles or so...

Depends on wind direction, of course. Tom's map shows more dispersion to the south, and elongation to both east and west. I wouldn't like to be in San Francisco or Seattle unless the weather was set for a westerly gale for about 20 years! Still, there's some upside - that den of Iniquity, Las Vegas would likely be devastated, given a northerly breeze, but all those god-fearing Mormons would definitely be history.
