I hope this thing reaches at least a 5 on the torino scale and something like a 2 or 3 on the Palermo scale before it disappears from view. If we are left with significant worry maybe it will serve notice to the general population on the importance of the space program and we will see full funding of the recently published AAIA goals and a general increase in public support for the space program. While 45% of the US population may expect humanity to be temporary and doomed by God's hand on a shorter term than cosmic threats I think an in their lifetime threat may be taken a little less willingly.
