Not only robot telescopes. I would not be surprised to see Honda humanoid robots as part of the next Moon effort.
But the bottom line is that the whole thing is going to have to be man tended, by those old hairless and tailess chimps, us. We can still do things which machines can not, and given the tasks involved, I don't think there's any other way.
Due to the extremely advanced technology that is needed, and the international coordination needed, and the high costs, I don't think that any of the NEO problem can be handled by prizes. I'd rather see good jobs with fair working conditions at fair wages than prizes for amateurs. That said, if private folks want to offer prizes, okay, it's their money.
I have always thought that the market itself is enough of a prize for any commercial endeavor, and I think that government prizes would distort the market. One key area I see is going to be private Moon and Mars rovers, with product distribution and billing handled via the interenet.
Government's role should be only to make things as good for the private sector as they can.
