Current Events » in reply to Poor, misunderstood, Jose Padilla

The next time you cite Wikipedia, remember it's an experiment, not an authoritative source.

Anyone may contribute. The theory is, it will be self-correcting... after a while, when someone else of a different opinion logs on to change an article not written by them.

I have already done a correction, in the case of an article that identified a college affiliated with the Church of the Brethren (a peace church with missions all over the world that opposes the use of armed force as a foreign policy tool) as "controlled by Marxists". It was a ridiculous statement. For all I know, the original author has gone back to retract my correction, but I alerted the college about the problem.

I would not cite Wikipedia, ever, without following it up. I'm not sure that Rotten.com is much better as an authoritative source, since they admit that a lot of what they get is from anonymous sources [see also: big stink about Newsweek's use of anonymous sources], and especially since Rotten.com is cited as a source for the Wikipedia article.

I would really like to see an independent article that includes interviews with people who knew Padilla before he was declared an enemy combatant.

Everyone is entitled to his opinion, so here's mine: executing 14-year-olds is sick, and is not the hallmark of a civilized nation.
