Flame » in reply to GREEDY S.O.B. OIL COMPANIES

You want to see it from the inside?

Here in a real oil company we're hit by massively escalating prices for services and perssonel. Dayrates have near doubled across the board.

State of the art 3D seismic vessels that could be had 2 years ago for US$100K per day are now edging to US$0.5 MILLION per day. It takes 20-30 days to shoot a small 3d survey, and up to 90 days for a big one. We might drill 10 wells at US$5-10 Million a pop before we find a field you can develop - and that will cost US$0.5-1 Billion.

The trouble is, you've had it so good, for so long, you've forgotten what the real cost of energy is. You're lucky there are still gas stations around - the operators have been losing money on gas for the last decade. Still are probably - they live off profit from soda pop and twinkies in the shop!

You live in the largest, most wasteful, most egotistical, capitalistaic, and insular society since the Roman Empire and you dare to complain about market forces!

Well, I hope you freeze in the dark next winter.

Sell your big fat car, sell your big fat house. Get a small place near work, or near a transit system that works. Do it quick before everyone else gets the same idea and you can't even GIVE your SUV away and the price for little apartments in town reaches European norms.

Welcome to the real world, America. The Frontier is now officially closed and you have to live in the same small box as the rest of us.

Enjoy...
