You know, a nation that is largely a livable strip equidistantly surrounding about a zillion square miles of rainless desert should be able to come up with a creative solution for its energy problems a lot more easily than some other places. ;)
Nick has an understandable frustration with people who think gas comes out of a pump and electricity comes out of a plug in the wall, and that those who produce it just sit back and collect rent on it.
