The truth is that we don't get a free lunch...And we shouldn't get a free lunch...There is no such thing as a free lunch, yet so many seem entitled.
Finding oil and getting it to your gas tank or furnace is damn expensive. Even more so when we willingly limit our opportunities to find and develop new sources of oil.
I'm torn on this whole issue, yes it hurts to pay more and more each year for energy; but then what else can we realisticly expect...If we continue to consume more and more, the prices must eventually skyrocket.
Fortunatly, the higher prices will spur a great new round of exploration and development. The higher prices will spur a new free-market oriented interest in efficency as well as investment in alternative energy technologies...So the higher prices will in the long run be a good thing.
In the meantime, we need to suffer a little pain for the good of us all.
