How much is maintaining diplomatic relations with other nations worth in dollars?

How much does the military earn? How much benefit in dollars does the Smithsonian give us? How much does govt funded r&d pay us back?

I think it would be great to do this accounting. It would be very tricky to assign numbers to it all, though.
