I have never in my life attended a church where the charity programs and donations were considered mandatory. Some churches have tithing, but even those have no real penalties for failing to do so. Our church has several missions overseas, an annual homebuilding trip to Mexico, and other things. The hat gets passed, but nobody gets grief if they don't put anything in.
I do contribute to the church's building fund, which is paying for a new sanctuary, but I don't include that in my definition of "charity" in this context, although it is deductible.
Anyway, by your silly definition of "pure charity," you would have to exclude any tax-deductible donations, since the threat of losing the money to the government means it's "forced" and not true generosity. Who does that leave? The guy who drops a quarter in the cup of the homeless guy on the corner?
You have the stereotype "Conservatives can't be generous" stuck in your head, and I hope it's comfortable in there along with all the other myths you carry around with you.
The utter cluelessness of many on the Left about what Middle America is like is why you keep losing elections.
