re: Who are the rest of us to argue?

Actually, my "stereotype" about greedy Conservatives is based on the preliminary results of some market research for a startup concerned with facilitating charitable contributions. There's an amazing (well, not really) strong correlation between political views and a willingness to give to charity. Conservatives talk only about tax considerations, and can't imagine why anyone would voluntarily give in the absence of tax incentives, while the response from Liberals is "where do I sign up?".

The estate tax only encourages giving to charity, but it doesn't dictate which charity. Gates and Buffet could just as easily have endowed RightWing thinktanks with $60 billion to protect the interests of the poor victimized wealthy, but apparently they value the welfare of billions of ordinary people over the welfare of a few thousand in the wealthy elite. Good for them!

It's a shame that even $60 billion can't buy conscience transplants for Conservatives. The world would be a much better place.
