Many people couldn't give a hoot about oil use.
Many think we have an inexhaustible supply.
The oil will run out in 50 years has been a mantra for 50 years - you're not going to scare anyone that way.

I'm with Tom on this one - oil is too bloody useful to be turning it in to gasoline.
