Hot Weather w/o ac - Quick Tips

Here's a quick survival guide to hot weather without a/c.

Hang up a wet sheet next to a fan if available. If no fan is available hang a wet sheet next to an open window. As the air passe the sheet it is cooled by moisture in the air.

Make a mister. A spray bottle with water for personal use or when you go somewhere is handy. The constant evaporation of water from your skin is essential to keeping cool when temps are over 99 degrees. Sweating doesn't cut it.

Drink plenty of clear water. Hot days mean 12-15 glasses per day for proper fluid balance.

Stay in the shade. Radiation increases the chances sunstroke and heat exhaustion.

Don't exert. Period. Even minor efforts when the body can't cool down are a big mistake.

Wear a hat outdoors. Shield your head.

If you have a hose with an adjustable nozzle, set it on a fine setting so that it sprays out in a mist and hang it over something to let the water spray down over you.

Always keep a lower window and higher window cracked open.

Leave your car windows partially open when you leave it. It will keep the temps down by twenty to thirty degrees when you get back to it.

Really hot? Make a bath and throw a bag or two of ice in the water. Enjoy.

Don't go to sleep when its over 90 degrees indoors without some sort of cooling mechanism in place (i.e a fan next to a wet sheet, a light mister, etcetera) Waking up with heat exhaustion is NO fun. But if you do - cool down quick in a pool, bath, or similar set up.

Ice pack to the head. If you sense heat exhaustion coming on, put an ice pack on the back of your head and neck - this is your internal regulator & mental control center and is the most important thing to keep cool.
