The King Lives!

Well King,

You're the one seeing this through rose-covered glasses. You keep pointing out the boon to business. Okay, let's look again at what this will do to the business landscape.

When the garden variety Mexican illegals, out-of-staters and exotic new boat people start showing up for Chemotherapy and other expensive medical treatments and operations - just WHO do you think will pay for all that treatment!!!

Two hints...they are capitalists and they pay taxes.

If you guessed businesses & legal citizens, you are two for two!

Taxes will go through the roof after the first year of evaluating expenses. Doctors will not be able to be renumerated at 'market rates' but will be given 'fair' rates as determined by the State of California.

Businesses will be the first to receive the impact and they will reel under the weight in short order. Then the Franchise Tax Board will be ruthlessly squeezing the folks still paying taxes.

You tell me...what buisinesses will prosper in the increasingly low-income environment which California will become? Wal-mart? Sure. Ok. Big corporations and industries will save existing healthcare expenses but will pay "fair cost sharing" - which will immediately have to pay for healthcare for about 5 million illegals from Mexico living in California and who only seek treatment for emergencies now. Within a year or two the amount they initially pay will quadruple - and that is a conservative estimate.

In very short order they will be paying FAR MORE to do business in CA than less and the business exodus will be larger than the Jews following Moses out of Egypt to the promised land.

What doctor will treat an endless line of patients at 75% of what he/she could earn in another state? Only a stupid or incompetent doctor. Dr. Probono and Dr. Kildare live only in a fictional world. Just the staggering cost of prescription drugs that will suddenly be distributed is enough to break most California businesse once that tax burden is shared!

The only jobs will be as farm hands, fast-food workers & other minimum wage slave type positions. The entrepreneurs who earn a decent wage, and employ folks above minimum wage will be taxed out of the state within five years or less.
McDonald's and other corporations that make enough in other states will hang on in California and shift their expenses elsewhere.

Businesses aren't prone to taking things lying down. They will pass their new tax burdens to the people again. Unfortunately, the reality you fail to realize, is that the people in other states will pay for your new healthcare.

Inflation? It will shoot up so fast that it will make the shuttle lift-off appear like it moves in slow motion.

Your utopian glassestm are great for parties, and reading fairy tales to children, but are really dangerous to wear on a daily basis.

I know you don't see it - or want to see it - and only by its being made law and being present to witness the complete destruction of California firsthand will you ever realize that as bad as things were, under universal care they got infinitely worse.

Predicting exactly just HOW BAD California could get is the only question in my mind.

How will the police handle the new influx of 3rd worlders and poor, sick from all over?

How high will crime get in California? Will it make Washington DC appear like the safest spot on Earth by way of comparison?

What will happen to housing? An endless influx of poor will make the average home and apartment contain 7-15 residents. The real estate market will collapse first in these poor zones while other points become even more outrageously expensive to compensate. The law of supply and demand will not be repealed. Demand for good housing in a good neighborhood will turn 1000 square foot homes into 1.5 million dollar specials and the many CA slums will continue to grow exponentially.

Heck, I watched Orange County flush itself during the eighties and San Diego County flush itself during the 90s. Yet, as bad as it got - with 1 hour waits just to move a few freeway exits during rush hour and where ones "practical living zone" became ever smaller and one's "wasted time" became ever higher - it can get infinitely worse.

Eventually, car or no car, rich or poor - you are trapped. You can't move freely around your city, much less your state. Quality of life keeps going down, down, down. Just going to the market becomes a chore. You wake up and one morning you realize your city looks like a bad Ridley Scott film landscape - minus the cool lighting and stylish clothing. Foreign graffiti, like dog poop, litters the landscape. Every wait at every intersection or every time one waited at a single car "stoplamp" just to park and inhale lots of carbon monoxide on the freeway constantly reminds one of how everything has gone to Pluto in California.

Universal healthcare would be the final self-inflicted coup de grace California has seemingly awaited to put it out of its misery forever.
