If you think politicians are going to make health care decisions based on altruism and great wisdom, as opposed to their own political self-interest, you're living in a different galaxy than I am.
The first result of national health care will be exploding costs, as no politician will dare to turn off the spigot for any particular interest group. The next phase will either be bankruptcy, or rationing. Market forces always work, and when you try to short-circuit them, they work against you.
If you look at this on a national scale, Canada's health care per capita runs about $4,200 US dollars. Multiply that by 300 million Americans, and you get $1.26 trillion dollars a year. Some of this would be alleviated by shunting medical care costs away from the private sector and into the public one, but this is adding an amount equal to over half the current overall Federal budget to the fiscal flood already flowing through Washington. Results will not be pretty.
