I skimmed the text of the bill till my eyes crossed, and will admit that it looks like it might create quite a hefty bureaucracy, and that's discomfiting. The point I was trying to make originally is that even something this possibly monstrous is better than the status quo. Apparently the prospect of drastic government action hasn't been enough to motivate the private sector to clean up its act (only enough motivation to pour milions into lobbying against this solution over the years). If the private sector hasn't been able to solve the problem by now, I think it's past time for the government to act.
To put it in plainer English, if you want to convince me that the free market can provide health care for most Americans, show me the free market providing health care for most Americans.
More than half a century's gone by under the regime of health care provided by business, and the results aren't pretty. Time to close the books on that failed experiment and move on to something that's been proven to work in most other modern nations.
