Reasonable is easy

Who doesn't want Utopia, (or as close as we can get to it)? The Star Trek world is an ideal worthy of wishing for.

Maybe we can make it with baby steps but my standards for universal health care are so high I wonder if it will ever be feasiblle. As long as what is offered is fine for the masses and not good enough for the priviliged, will it really be fair and when it is good enough for everyone will we be able to afford it?

Health care is expensive because there are many treatments and procedures for everything instaed of "take two aspirin and go to bed" of the early 20th century.

My Grandfather dropped dead of a heart attack at 62 instead of having a by-pass or drug treatment. The same goes for cancer and strokes.

There are things that can be done to lower costs. Many of us get routine care from RNPs these days and they are, in many circumstances, as good as an MD. We probably put most physicians on a pedestal they don't deserve. With the exception of some surgeons and specialists, medical care is not that different from a skilled trade.

New drugs are too expensive but the question persists regarding research if the rewards are reduced.
