There are SO few conservatives here, that finding one to debate with is going to be a problem. I'm a fiscal conservative and a military conservative but my social rank blows the conservative myth out of the water. I am a proponent of birth control, an atheist, etcetera.
From Mark's posts I'd say he is moderate and leans right. The whole Gary incident was unfortunate, but that's the way it goes. Spilled milk, tears, under the bridge and all that.
Tom's church-going and a fiscal and defense conservative, but his social standing is probably only slightly to the right of mine. A true neo-con? Please. Try again.
That leaves REB, SDG and Lee as potential examples of this new breed of neo-con you seek to debate. REB, SDG have the social credentials, besides the fiscal and military aspects but are soft-spoken as trueconservatives generally are. Lee, not holding religious beliefs and some outside of mainstream views on strengthening genetic bloodlines deserves a place in the independent/libertarian column somewhere to the right of Tom in a good number of areas and on the left in others.
Their are so few true conservatives in politics. I have mentioned before Bush is not a true conservative. His life has been anything but conservative and he is better classified as a conservative-shipper. MA could probably define what a shipper is better than I, but basically it is someone who promotes a certain agenda from outside. In Harry Potter fandom there exist Harry-Hermione shippers who root for Harry and Hermione to get together. They may not write the books, but they still support a certain outcome from the outside. Bush is a conservative-agenda shipper. It is precisely because he does not hold conservative ideals, nor has he lived by them, that he is so intransigient and unwilling to compromise.
Like an agent negotiating for the talent, he is detached and impersonal. This absolutely infuriates the left and those who try to get him to wiggle back some.
Bush is a shipper. He is evangelical and he is subject to the influences of strong personalities. He is not a true conservative. Cheney is more conservative than Bush and Condi Rice is even more of a conservative than either Bush/Cheney.
So the lack of conscience in modern conservatives, will be a tough debate here on the Zone. We have so few of them we may have to import a few from Redstate, Little Green Footballs, Powerline blog et al.
And what could be debated that hasn't been argued before?
Empathy? Empathy only works when you are the master of your own emotions and can recognize and shut down destructive signals in an instant.
Compassion for the poor?
Already present in spades. One has to differentiate your tendency to assume rich=conservative=greedy folks walking on the backs of others. Many Rich folks vote conservative because they are FISCAL conservatives and want to keep their money. Most of them are socially LIBERAL and this can be evidenced by how tightly they pinch a penny and make it scream.
Concern for the rest of the world?
This is perhaps the single most important benefit of the neo-con view. Not subscribing to the "all nations are equal", "UN is the answer" rot that is sugarcoated onto the cereal of children, the uninformed and the hopelessly naive, the neo-cons recognize some nations and peoples have a better way of life and government. Their goal of slowly getting other nations to abandon the lesser ways and beliefs is a noble one. Naturally, this scares Annan and other folks like him who live their entire life as parasites on the globalist foodchain, cozying up to mass-murderers for a buck and a sitting place at the table.
So this inability to accept or create a moral equivalence between a suicide bomber and an errant bomb, Hezbollah and the Israeli army or between all religions and peoples is what makes the neo-cons so loathed by the left.
Conscienceless Conservatives is another one of those alliteration wonders like Licentious Liberals or Hasty Habitablezoners that make it easy to see folks work somewhat hard at this propaganda. CONS is the subliminal message they've been trying to pound home the past 6 years:
"conservative=CONS=criminal"
It's fun. Give it your best shot. Show us how we all have succumbed to the human devouring, soulless, neo-con machinery.
Let's do it here on CE.
C'mon let's rumble.
