"Neoconservatives" aren't exactly the same as authoritarian conservatives. In a sense they're the yin to its yang: They want to be the Authority, and thus they need authoritarian conservatives to cede the power to them. They're codependent, but not the same. Destroying the neocons would help, by cutting off the head of the snake, but that'll still leave authoritarian conservatives thrashing about looking for somebody else to follow. The long term cure is to stop the fearmongering and reduce the level of insecurity, and thus make people less vulnerable to the sly blandishments of the wannabe dictators.
