I covered this below, and it went in one ear and out the other.

Of course authoritarianism exists. Trying to irrevocably link this to American conservatism is a load of shit. I made the point here, and shot the premise down several ways. Here's another: Worship of a Fearless Leader is no different than worship of the collective, or the State.

Anyone who confidently declares that there is no such thing as "left-wing authoritarianism," as your sources have, is an idiot, and "redefining" communism as "right wing" is transparently ridiculous.

Which side in America wants me to turn over my medical care, retirement, and much of my income to a centralized authority? Which political party do I have to thank for almost every interference with my life down to the size of flush toilet I can install without legal penalty? Which one would take control of every aspect of the economy if it thought it could get away with it? Who creates the bureaucracies, the Czars, the micromanagement of day-to-day living?

Which side thinks that paradise is an ever-enlarging government, an infinite Nanny State? Spend some time looking over California's proposed legislation this year. Which party is pulling the power toward the central authority?

An eight-year old could see the flaws in ascribing all of history's authoritarianism to "conservatism." The worst abuses in history were from people deciding to recreate society in a "bold new way," and kill everyone who didn't like it. Look up "radical" sometime. Or "revolutionary." They have an exact meaning.

You don't seem to be able to grasp any of this, and frankly, I'm beginning to suspect few others here do any more either.
