This whole topic is full of strong imagery, because in reality we all recognize the truth of authoritarian conservatism. It's often explained in terms of the metaphor of a family with a Strong Father, and whether or not that was our family, we've all known that family. And we've all become familiar with it through archetypical portrayals in fiction. "Father Knows Best", ya know, and if June Cleaver complains to Ward Cleaver that he was a little hard on the Beaver last night, well, it was for the boy's own good.

That's why nobody's come up with even a token rebuttal to the idea. I can't take seriously SDAI-Tech1's random riffing that never confronts it head-on, and Tom, well, Tom's being Tom. He knows in his gut what I'm talking about. Introspection can be painful sometimes, and it seems, as a generalization, to be harder on Conservatives than Liberals. We get into navel-gazing, Conservatives find it disturbing and uncomfortable. The reactions have been predictable all down the line.
