Tom, the victim

Man, you're kind Robert but I guess if you're the host of forums you have to watch your words. I'll grant you that there's a phase that authoritarian conservatives go through that could be described as victimization but I think someone like Tom is long past that point.

We're talking a man that is insinuating daily in his posts that people he claims a fondness for are intentionally subvertering their country for daring to criticize the democracy built upon that right.

I'm taking a very interesting class for my degree called "Art and War" (no it's not about me) and saw a compelling movie the other night, a Spanish film called "Butterfly". The basic guist of the movie was watching a young boy grow up in a small Spanish town at the onset of the Spanish Civil War, be nurtured by a and develop a fondness for a progressive schoolmaster, and then get caught up in having to turn on his mentor in the end when fascism rolls through his area.

The political change is rapid, terrifying and overwhelming to the townsfolk who have to choose between survival and turning on some of their friends and neighbors. The final scenes where dissidents are being rounded up to be taken away and probably shot and the families begin shouting "Traitor, Red!" at the people as they're loaded into a truck shows the true victimization of authoritarianism. However, they only remain victims if they don't slowly come to their senses, feel shame for their betrayal, and begin work to reverse its effects. Without that evolution they are no longer victims but willing participants.

I see no evolution in Tom and others on this board.
