Cool, it'll be interesting to see you finally participate in a discussion of "perceptual mentalit[ies]" instead of denying the existence of such things. We've been down this road before.
I don't know what response you're expecting, but here goes:
If there had never been any scientific studies in this area, that wouldn't mean that the phenomenon doesn't exist.
There's no better evidence of that than the fact that people have for years described the phenomenon in layman's terms with perfect clarity:
People who are scared tend to look to strong leaders for protection.
It's a commonsense proposition. No need to overcomplicate it with ad homineum attacks on the individuals talking about it.
The significance of FDR turning down the opportunity to be dictator is that the opportunity existed. Authoritarian conservatism is real and he could have exploited it. That the term hadn't been invented yet hardly changes the facts of the situation.
I'll repeat something I said to SDAI-Tech1 recently: If you deny the existence of authoritarian conservatism, please offer your alternative theory for historical facts such as the German people turning to Hitler. Something happened, and I at least have an explanation to offer. All you've done so far is to deny my explanation. Nature and reason abhor a vacuum, and if you won't fill it, I will.
