>"have backed off on the global spreading of human rights.?" <
>>Hmm.....
The IDEA is noble, freeing people from oppressors, but is it OUR job?
Invading a sovereign country is against international law.
Remember, Bush had us all cowering in the corner thinking we HAD to go in and get those WMD's. Against my better judgement, I thought they actually knew something I didn't. Turns out, they knew LESS.<<
As the world leader, yes, I think it is the responsibility of America to spread human rights around the globe and bring down those who seriously violate their people’s human rights.
>>You can't save an oppressed people by dropping 500 lb. bombs on them, firebombing their cities, having lock-downs and shoot-outs in the local population, by taking out their infrastructure, robbing their banks, stealing their oil and raping their children. Oh, I forgot.
And by torturing them.<<
Our military is trying very hard not to injure civilian.. You think they were better off being murdered by Saddam? Being tortured and raped by his sons, being tortured and murdered by his sons and him? We are working hard and dying so they may have a better future.
You think American’s freedom was a violence free cakewalk? No- a lot of people died for yours and my freedom.
I agree our solders should not kill or torture innocent civilians. And think where it has happened is very rare. I think you are falling for propaganda based on untrue events.
>>Why you refuse to see this is beyond me.<<
Because I see a people who were slaves of a murderous dictator who now have a chance to be free and rule themselves.
>"There is a difference between living as a slave in orderly country, and living free in a country where its people can make their own decisions."<
>>Well, that was the general idea after there were no WMD's.....go to Plan B. But poor planning made it impossible with the three different cultural factions that had been kept under control by Sadam Hussein. <<
Actually Saddam had WMD and used them. He killed about 100,000 Kurds with them. And he didn’t get rid of them all like (The gas shells he used to kill the Kurds) he was supposed to. He also had long range missiles he was not supposed top have. Lots of evidence was found on WMD programs he was ready to start up once he could. He violated the no fly zone and shot at our planes. He was in violation of many other parts of the UN resolution.
Besides WMD was just one reason we were going into Iraq, It wasn’t the only reason.
And why does the Left ignore the fact Clinton killed many Iraqis in Operation Desert Fox because he was going after WMD? The left believed Saddam had WMD then.
Saddam kept his country under control by fear, the same way Hitler did, and the same way the USSR did. People there lived in fear and for good reason. They were owned by Saddam. He could, and did, kill them at his whelm. He let his sons rape, torture and murder them. Anyone who was suspected of being against him got to watch their families be tortured raped and killed, before they were killed. That is not living, that is being a slave.
>>Besides fighting us, they are fighting each other as the country sinks into civil war.
There are over 100,000 dead there.<<
Real figures show a number far, far, far less.
That figure is unconfirmed and up for speculation. Saddam killed many more than that. Whether the country sinks in to civil war remains to be seen. Opponents of the war have been screaming civil war for sometime now, yet it has not happened.
>>We have thousands of young American soldiers who haven't come home in one piece, if at all. And this war has cost us our noble standing in the world AND a half trillion dollars better spent here AT HOME, on OUR infrastrucre, on OUR education, on OUR health programs.<<
Yes, it is a sacrifice. But it will be worth it when the Middle East has become a peaceful part of the Free World. If we were to do nothing, today’s babies would be having to deal with an even more powerful Middle East bent on killing them in 20 year. This problem is not going to go away by ignoring it.
Like I said, a lot of people died for our freedom? Was it worth it?.
>"How can they complain about Conservatives taking away their freedoms in America, yet support a ruthless dictator who had a law and order in his country because he ruled by fear? <
>>That's what we're complaining about. We're going down the same road. <<
And you are making a big deal about speculations and rumors. You are taking little things and blowing them out of proportion. When the facts come in, there is no substance to the accusations about the evil Bush taking away our freedoms. You are being paranoid about nothing.
You want to ensure we don’t loose our freedoms. Please do. But keep it about real stuff. Don’t base it on rumors and speculations. When one of these speculations turns out to be false, let it go. Don't keep spreading it around. That is what I have a problem with. Like the rumor that Bush is listening to our phone conversations turned out to be the phone company handing over phone numbers to the National Security Agency. No one was listening to anyone’s calls. Yet the rumors keep flying around that Bush is listening to our phone calls. Totally untrue. Keep it real, guys.
