to infidelity?
Gotta love the idea.
Of course, you're speaking to the crowd that this "solemn commitment" is on paper only, and the rest are all lies? Now, if the wife knows about the affair, and allows the philandering to preserve her place in the food chain (eg: mortgage paid, car paid, financial security, he shows up at all family events), then I'd agree that he has a "solemn commitment".
If, on the other hand, she knows nothing, then they BOTH are living a lie, at the expense of each other's true happiness. I think you are saying here that you can have your cake and eat it too. I say the cake tastes good for awhile, but usually ends up all over your face.
I have seen many marriages in my life to know what goes on. I say you should be true to your heart and honest with your partners. However, that puts me in the lowest 5%.
I'm trying not to be judgemental here, but I have been on both sides of the fence.
That kind of marriage is an "institution", where the wife is nothing more than chattel.
And I can tell you which side of the fence I am on, which is perhaps why I am still single.
