You're skirting dangerous territory (for you), Tom. Rob's quote from Mr. Coxe was meant to support the interpretation of the second amendment's gibberish as favoring arming the citizenry to the teeth. Glad you're finally onboard in recognizing that times have changed, and what made sense in the late 18th Century may be a disastrously bad fit to conditions in the early 21st.
Your assertion that "To talk about enforcing them [immigration laws] as "unconstitutional" shows a real lack of clarity on the concept..." Well, actually, it shows a lack of understanding of the 14th as well as 4th Amendments. The strength of the fear on the right doesn't trump the Constitution, and if you want to enact laws that contravene due process and equal protection, you first must remove those protections from the Constitution. Only then can legislators "stand up" and tear down our civil liberties.
Whatever happened to "strict constructionism"? Oh yeah, September 11th happened...sometimes it sure looks like bin Laden succeeded in sowing fear, uncertainty and doubt. His goal never was to kill every American, it was to fracture civil society and cause our nation to collapse. We're more than halfway there.
