Which is my point. The Irish blend in better than Mexicans.
I know for a fact, through my years of marriage to a lass from Ireland, that the Irish consider the US eastern seaboard to be in effect the westernmost county of Ireland, and disdain mere immigration paperwork. Kind of resonates with the claim that Mexicans think of the US southwest as the northern state of Mexico, doesn't it?
If you allow for the century separating the wave of Irish immigration from today's wave of immigration from the south (I can't keep saying "Mexican", they come from other countries too), it was claimed that the Irish had exactly the deleterious effect on America as is claimed for Mexicans today. Change "drugs" to alcohol, allow for inflation to convert from billions sent home to millions, threatening the "balance of labor" with their own labor, a reputation for love of fisticuffs and a pugnacious attitude towards authority...
Again, please tell me what fundamentally makes Mexicans different from Irishmen?
