human evolution

Isn't human evolution already corrupted beyond hope? Our benevolent social organization, and our technology, grants continued life--and the opportunity to have children--to individuals who, if we lived a more primitive existence, would have been removed from the gene pool long ago.

I'm a walking example of it. I have terrible eyesight...without glasses I wouldn't be very good at fleeing from a predator. Evolution may well have already "selected me out," if it weren't for the social and technological protections offered to me. I also have diabetes, which would have shortened my life considerably if it weren't for a substantial medical establishment helping to keep me alive.

The point is, there are lots of us having kids who would likely not be doing so if things were left up to the "natural order." Doesn't that hopelessly mess up the evolutionary direction of humanity?
