"upsetting its lifestyle"????
Is that what we did? "At least they HAD a life," oh, yeah, and cars, and boats, and computers.
"Slavery is just fine, thank you, as long as I'm getting my bread and circuses. And hey, I'm a good boy...it's not like Saddam is going to feed ME to a chipper. That happens to other people, and I don't particularly like them anyway."
You sound like one of those plantation owners in the old South who fed his slaves well, took care of their needs, gave them poor but reasonable housing, and never whipped or abused them. People like that honestly could never figure out why the slaves and the abolitionists were still upset with him, and was shocked when someone started a war over it and burned his plantation.
Maybe if young Riverbend had been "noticed" by one of Saddam's sons she would have something else to write about. To listen to you you'd think we'd invaded goddam Finland.
More than five percent--about 1 million--of Iraq's population perished due to direct action from Saddam Hussein. More than that if you count indirect abuse, like his absconding with relief money during sanctions.
Five percent of the American population would be over fourteen million people. But hey, you'd have a 19-out-of-20 chance of not being one of them, right?
