the 2% of society, on the left side, that are discountables, that have very little actual influence and who everyone generally throws peanuts at.
These "discountables" fielded tens of thousands of protestors during the war, most of which probably had no idea of the philosophy of the organizers. I don't recall anyone throwing peanuts at them.
They have seats in Congress, and have a great influence on the Democratic Party. They run the academic programs and hiring of many universities. The radical environmental movement drags us all around by the nose daily. If you get past the borders of America, they have a huge influence in places like Europe.
These people DO exert a great influence on how things are done in this country, and you pretending they just sit in basements and read Das Kapital doesn't change the facts.
And I capitalize "Left" when I talk about these guys. Small "L" left is a more general term that encompasses a wider range of politics.
And I would be careful about Noam. He is worth paying attention to, more so than the average discountable uber-lefti-nutzie, more so than michael moore. Noam is one of those folks I disagree with, but I find it valuable to examine the content of the disagreement. Pay attention to the man, he has some points to make, even if they are largely incorrect.
He is also a damn sight smarter than you and me put together.
Maybe you. ;)
If he's so damn smart, why is he "largely incorrect?"
