I must admit they had me going for a while, tens of billions to rebuild Iraq indeed. For $10,000 a weel you could get enough engineers and craftsman to remake copis of the Egyptian pyramids there are so many unemployed. Let's see, where are all the expensive components. Concrete, yeh I guess it's hard to find sand in these desert countries. Asphalt would be expensive too, not many petroleum products in that area. Amazing how the Iraqis rebuilt everything after Gulf War 1 with no money, now all of us sudden it's going to cost all this.
Rebuilding houses, schools, etc? Yeh I can just imagine how expensive wood and nails would be, add another billion on to that. Sadaam managed to build all those palaces on a small percentage of the oil money, seems hardly possible. I guess people like Bechtel must be scratching their heads, thinking it's like how did they build the pyramids.
Good thing there are so many cost plus contracts out there, from the companies that gave you thousand dollar toilet seats. I suppose the only thing they might have to import would be reinforced steel for the concrete, everyone knows that stuff is worth millions a sheet. I guess that leaves power cables, water pipes, etc but apparently poor countries like Jordon seem to be able to afford all that without billions in aid. Maybe Chalabi should go there and so how they afforded it. Oh I forgot, he stole a few hundred million off them. With that kind of money you could rebuild maybe half a dozen schools.
No one ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the public.
