Bigots
From the same post you linked.
Gay relations are to be tolerated in a society only and can never be endorsed, no more than one can support bestiality or any of the previously mentioned deviant reproductive outcomes.
Tell me, how can a bigot suggest tolerance for the group he is supposed to hate!? I didn’t see where he was advocating ostracizing gays as you suggest.
At 2-3% of the US population, homosexuals are a deviation in the statistical sense. Still, that’s about 8 million people fighting for acceptance. I must confess that even though I felt the need to counter SDAI’s arguments in my post to him, I can’t comfortably say that homosexuality should be embraced, celebrated, or promoted.
Does that make me a bigot or possibly a hypocrite? Or does it make me a person trying to manage an antiquated belief system undergoing deconstruction. How comfortable it must be to have arrived at a point of certainty in your own beliefs.
There was a time in our country when sex for pleasure was considered a sin. This fact is illustrated by numerous laws that are still on the books. Basically the laws targeted all none-reproductive sex. Sex for fun was a “no-noâ€. Sex was for having children. In effect, marriage was a license for having children. Note the term “bastard†is never used literally today.
It looks to me like Derrek’s beliefs are rooted in a time before the sexual revolution, a time closer to when these laws were written, a time when that majority shared Derrek’s views.
Bigot?
“A person who is intolerant of opinions which conflict with his own, as in politics or morals.â€
“One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.â€
It seems that some of the same “tolerance†that is demanded from so-called bigots should also be extended to them.
But that’s a moot point now isn’t it?
