"I favor caution in expressing private thoughts in public venues. If his opinion were posted on a billboard or voiced on the media in would definitely be over the top because it would be a sales pitch. In a private conversation it would simply be an opinion that could be rebuffed or even ridiculed (as we are doing). I try to think of internet forums as private conversation but it is tricky at times."
I think the main problem isn't that Derek is giving an opinion. Rather I think problem is he is claiming his opinion is science. I think that the only real scientific studies that I'm aware of concerning this subject, does not support his assertions. I would further say that his conclusions which he has claimed have resulted from his "vortex theories", would seem to further invalid his "theory".
{I think that the gay marriage issue, should be limited to state law and do not think it should become a Federal matter- at least at this time. [In other words I don't think Federal Law should be put in the position of enforcing gay marriage upon those states unwilling to accept this.]. In other words, the reasoning is *mostly* based on "legal and political considerations". Btw, if you want to draw a parallel between the Slavery issue as far as in forming the Constitution, I would say that is being melodramatic, but it is a similar issue as far as state rights.}
