Read the article. Religious people are going to see this movie, and going more than once. The appeal of this movie is not exactly the motivation that drives the fans of Eminem, is it?
Minorities, who to the dismay of many liberals have an uncomfortable tendency to be religious, are also a large factor.
The media take on this when the movie opened was that it was a piece of crap, appealing only to psychos and anti-Semites, and that the movie would go under quickly. That the opening night numbers were driven by churches pre-purchasing tickets, and didn't mean anything. They were dead wrong, and will be proven more so as time goes on.
As usual, most of America is making its own judgments on things, and they aren't coming up with the answers the cultural elite wants them to.
The gay marriage issue is like this in one aspect. One can reasonably argue the rights merits of the issue, but it is a hard fact that most Americans do not think gay marriage should be legal. In surveys of Americans in general, the ratio is over 2 to 1.
In exit surveys of Democrats in the California primary, only half of those surveyed thought gay marriage should be legal. That's Democrats. In California.
Of course, issues of right and wrong should not be decided on majority rule, and this is no exception. But claiming that the gay marriage issue is a reflection of a great groundswell of American opinion is a lie.
