The Passion

I was prepared to frankly walk out. I have little stomach for gratuitous violence, and don't go to many movies on the pop side because of it.
The quality of the cinematography was incredible, however, and the story was presented in such a way that the terrible suffering and its intensity was relieved by flashbacks, changes in pov and character action.
That the movie detractors are focused on the violent parts are to demonstrate either a breath taking lack of insight as to what the story itself is, or else to show lack of sincerity in the criticism. To say the violence is over the top in this movie is to require the claimant to demand that the violent parts of Saving Private Ryan or Glory be cut out.
The other thing I have little stomach for is antisemitism. I detected none at all in the movie, and would challenge anyone to show it.
To say that since Jews in it are treated badly or behave badly means the movie is antisemitic would be like claiming Schindler's List is antisemitic, since Jews in it do both.
The cinematography is some of the best I have seen. The spare dialog lets the visual story make its deepest imapct. It shows the Catholic traditional telling of this story perhaps better than has ever been done in our time.
