Cowing has a nice post over on NASA Watch about Columbia's hatch being found in Lufkin, Texas. Unfortunately, the link does not work.

This urgently needs to be fingerprinted, to see if anyone opened it - specifically, Ramon.

I have written before about crew compartment integrity, and the need for an systems indepent bailout indicator to be attached to shuttle hatches -
