Grinding axes

If E.P. is grinding an ax, bizarre or otherwise, it's up to him now to put his nose to the grindstone. He has suggested he would like support for an investigation if he can come up with credible evidence. That's a big "if". Now the credibility of the argument rests on his research. Any visit to this topic can be addressed with a simple request for the promised documentation.

If he were to come up with it, would you support an investigation, if only to put the issue to rest and make sure the story turned up on Snopes?

Another item: E.P. has been exceptionally civil even if his ideas still seem a little "out there". I remember a time when this wasn't true. If he's willing to do the research, that is, to follow the rules, it's within the scope of this board to poke holes in his hypothesis and to examine any evidence with a critical eye. Isn't that what this board is for?

It's not as if E.P. couldn't find less critical audiences who would not address the issue with the same eye for detail. I think that dtb was offering not a pass, but a crucible.
