Professionals in both camps generally seem able to maintain the distinction. But this thread wouldn't exist if the non-professional masses didn't keep screwing it up.
This thread also wouldn't exist if there were no people like us to conduct it. Many of us are not science professionals, and none of us are religion professionals -- yet we, too, recognize that there is a distinction to be maintained, and are able to discuss across its boundary without dogma or rancour.
In essence, the ID campaign seeks to reduce the percentage of people like us among the "non-professional masses" to zero. Then it'll be torches-and-pitchforks time.
