Are you trying to say that Christians are scientific illiterates?
No? Good. I didn't think so.
First, scientific theory and testable facts are not [supposed to be] subject to the doctrine of the majority religion of any nation, or of any other measure of popular opinion. You know that. We have yet to repeal the theory of gravity by popular vote, although many of us would like to fly like Superman, especially at rush hour. Evolution should be no different.
Second, to imply that Christianity and ID are linked closely insults an awful lot of Christians who can make the distinction between what requires evidence and what requires faith.
What seems to elude people here is that ID is not really mere belief in a Creator. ID is an organized attempt to inflict a particular set of literalist Biblical beliefs on scientific research, analysis and theory formulation. It seeks to shore up a group of religious beliefs by undermining scientific literacy in the education of our children.
I would hope that anyone interested in popular support of space travel and technological advances in general would understand the terrible danger inherent in encouraging ignorance of how science works and what science means. We can pray for our astronauts, but we cannot launch rockets with a laying on of hands.
