Robert — 8/6/2005 5:34:03 PM (archived)

We'll be near the top of the list of people to be transsubstantiated as soon as the Religious Right establishes their "Christian Nation". It wasn't just the emperor who was annoyed when told he had no clothes; the crowd that had invested so much in its belief in fine raiment didn't appreciate it either.

My conversations with RobertEB formed an important subtext. We have a way of building on outrages like Creationism into a general denunciation of religion, and tend to forget that there are Zoners-of-faith. Their viewpoint is vital because Zoners like REB have established a proper balance between science and religion; the two don't have to be in mortal conflict. I enjoyed exercizing my philophical faculties on the subject of religion, rather than my well-exercized political faculties. When you stop fighting for a minute you start to find a patch of common ground.
