As in: the inevitable post mortem condescension, delivered with the inevitable patronizing tone (you probably consider it 'avuncular').
"Oh, those poor deluded Liberals...
"They couldn't possibly have a counter-argument with teeth, because they refuse to accept the vision of the world we insist is true -- and it must be true, because we insist it is. But so many of them are obviously intelligent, articulate, and rational...
"Why, they must be being deceived! We should tell them! Then they'll realize that rationalization -- oh, I mean rationality -- can lead only to agreement with us."
Pferdescheiß.
Speaking personally (as if it were anyone's business, least of all yours), I have no truck with such organizations as the type you postulate have enticed me and my fellows to believe them, rather than you and your ilk. I prefer to read primary sources and draw my own conclusions. That is, after all, the mark of rationality. Moreover, I have no money, so such pleas and/or trickery as you have hallucinated for your latest fantasy would fall here on blind eyes and deaf ears -- if, in fact, they existed at all.
I do not think it too much a stretch of the imagination to claim to speak for others here, as well.
The more I force myself to read the twists and turns of Eby, and others like him in the larger world, the more I am reminded of the years of Joe McCarthy*. I have already refreshed Tom's memory of the word "dupe" from that era -- call it a gift, as he was floundering for a concise word, and I provided one from his favorite historical period (see also: "Commies under the bed"). I now resurrect "Pinko" and "fellow traveler" -- as deliberate ridicule of my so-called worthy opposition's incapability of learning from a history they themselves have lived through.
Shall blacklists be next to stalk the Land of the Political Undead?
[* -- Interested bystanders, and those too young to remember first-hand,may find this illustrative... and thanks to Davin for reminding me of the exchange.]
