Dissent cuts both ways.
It so happens that a Republican is in office now. Do not be deceived into thinking that this will persist through the remainder of recorded history, unless recorded history ends tomorrow.
The right to dissent will apply to Republicans one of these days. It, in fact, applies to some Republicans right now.
To undermine the law by fudging the difference between harsh dissent and treason is to endanger free speech as a concept and as a practice for everyone. This helps no one in the long run. A partisan hack will think it helps his side if his side is in power, but partisan thinking is notoriously narrow.
Public scorn is fine and appropriate. Accusations of treason are neither.
If you don't want me to keep hammering at you about this, then quit bringing it up.
What you want is for people not to be able to say whatever they want about about Democrats.
That is a base lie. Prove it with my own statements -- not your interpretation of my statements, as I wouldn't trust you to interpret a cookie recipe -- or take it back.
You are the ones saying that restictions on freedom of speech are right as long as they help your side.
*sigh* Again, and with whistles: Free speech does not include false accusations of capital crimes. That is slander or libel, depending on whether the accusation is oral or written.
Restrictions on free speech are not all right. Sometimes those restrictions are applied by falsely accusing people of treason.
Genuine treason is not protected speech, because it's a crime. Libel and slander are not protected speech either, for the same reason.
