There is man.

And by that alone, there is god, maintained and searched for in the hearts of people. Some are happy to splash in the shallow end of the pool, is all. That's OK, as long as they don't insist on getting everyone else wet.

I have no belief in an independent omnipotent and omniscient being myself. But I do understand the experience of what is called the immanent divine. To try to explain it is like trying to grab smoke.

I have also been, and continue to be, on the receiving end of too many reeducation campaigns from aggressive fundamentalists not to recognize evangelism when I read it. The tendency to use the tactics used against us that we find painful and offensive is a constant temptation, which must be avoided every day. (I know I find that particularly difficult to do here, where I will sometimes lash back at someone who has treated me carelessly.) It certainly is not helpful to promote science over faith in general with the ideological tools of the worst fundamentalism: inflexibility, self-righteousness, doctrinal purity, ridicule and threats.
