Yes, human beings have the ability to use knowledge for their advancement or their destruction.
For over 60 years Mankind has possessed the ability to destroy both ourselves and a great deal of the Biological diversity of the planet. But ... somehow we've managed to avoid stepping off into the void, the Nuclear Jinn is still in the bottle. The engineered pathogens are still in the freezer.
For now.
Granted, part of that was sheer luck, a combination of random occurrences that ended well.
Now we face a far more sinister threat. Not of great Nations facing off in disparate Political Ideologies, but something much more threatening. The face of doom may well be a Radical Fundamentalist with those very weapons gleaned from a failed state. Not necessarily one of the Faith you may think either.
Nuclear attack would kill tens of thousands.
Chemical attack fewer.
Bio-weapon, literally millions, perhaps billions.
From a vial small enough to easily slip into your shirt pocket.
Will we survive, odds are, yes. But there will be many who shall weep for those lost to the struggle.
Too many, far, far too many.
