Here is an article from a recent issue of the Unitarian magazine
that tries to find a balance between the two worlds when it comes
to scientific evolution and religion's take on creation:
http://www.uuworld.org/ideas/articles/thewonderofevolution2679.shtml
No matter how right science is about evolution, it cannot be
ignored that not only do many people not have a critical scientific
background, but they also have an emotional one that is frightened
by the thought of a world that "just happened", to quote Mark Twain.
Billions are not into religion 'cause it's just something to do on a
Sunday morning. If we want a world that has a real foundation based
on rationality and science, we have to find out how to bridge that
gap between those who are comfortable with the idea of a Universe
that did not need a creator and those who literally could not live
without such an idea.
