I know she was worried that I was becoming an atheist, which I pretty much was at that time. Her being a strong Christian does make a difference to me. Perhaps a big part of it is the only religions I have known up close and personal are Christianity and Judaism.
Whatever led me back to Christianity, I understand it now – I didn’t as a kid. It makes sense to me now. Granted I had to figure out much on my own and dig a lot because the questions I asked were ones most religious leaders couldn’t answer. But I see the logic as to why God has done things the way he has.
I think God started this universe with the Big Bang. I think he is the master behind matter/energy and the laws that govern it. Is God a scientist? He did this because he wanted to create independent beings from himself. Sure, he could have personally made his own intelligent beings, but they couldn’t escape his influence.
I believe his purpose for creating this universe is us- intelligent beings. Why? I don’t know. For companionship? Or perhaps he has some specific purpose for us?
When life evolves on a planet (Following his natural and physical laws) he watches it closely. Perhaps he helps out by ending the line of species going nowhere, like the dinosaurs. Or perhaps that is another one of his natural laws- “Thou who doesn’t develop the intelligence to divert impactors shale find themselves extinct†?
Once intelligent life evolves on a planet and forms a civilization, he gives them laws- the Ten Commandments. Those who follow those laws get to be reborn in his realm with the matter that exist there.
I our case, it wasn’t working. Humans are not good at following those rules. Heaven is empty. So God tried something new. (Perhaps he does this on every planet that evolves intelligent life and has reached a certain stage). He makes part of his being into a human. He bridges the gap between us and him. He also experience being a man and he experiences a painful death.
And he tells us that he died for us, He personally knows what it is like to be human now. He tells us that all we need to do is believe in him and he will allow us to enter his realm when we die.
That is who Jesus is and his purpose was to bridge the gap between God and man, to let God experience what it is like to be human, and to give humans another way into his realm.
Anyway, that is the way I see it.
