re: We *should* know better.

In domestic concerns, people are angry at criminals, but they are very angry at criminal police officers and other forms of corruption by community leaders. Why? Because criminality in those expected to enforce the law and lead the community is more dangerous and corrosive to civilization. Why should international concerns be any different?

Your analogy is a bit off. Given the current Lebanese situation, what we have here are criminals who aim guns at innocent bystanders and shoot as many as possible, versus police officers who aim their guns at criminals and shoot some bystanders by accident. The use of the term "corruption" is hugely dishonest here.

I point out yet again that nobody, but nobody, seems to have any concern that Hezbollah is firing a hundred missiles a day SPECIFICALLY at civilian targets, with antipersonnel shrapnel warheads SPECIFICALLY designed to kill unarmored civilians. And as I point out, this appears almost nowhere in the news, and the excuses being made here for that are lame as hell.

I also point out that if Hezbollah had not been attacking over and over again across the Lebanese border over the past six years, Israel would never have attacked Lebanon at all. Now, reverse that. How does it come out? We hear a lot about "proportional" response, which quite effectively paints over the obvious issue of who started it.

Israel is being condemned for striking a building containing--completely unknown to them--civilians inside a war zone, an area being used for missile attacks on three cities in Israel. The missile attackers receive no such condemnation, because, according to Mary Anne, we expect them to be evil, so why bother?

I want Israel to win. I want Hezbollah to be destroyed. I'm sorry for the Lebanese, but where the hell was their government and their 75,000 man army when Hezbollah had been ordered by the U.N. in 2000 to stand down and disarm, and the terrorists turned around and spent six years building an offensive arsenal in south Lebanon?
