We had to make a list of the books we read for some sort of credit in class... at that age I read obsessively- I read books, mostly sci-fi, every chance I had- a novel would last me maybe 2-3 days. Needless to say that when I turned in my list of read books, the teacher accused me of lying, since a kid my age couldnt read that much....
Anyway, I started reading 'Catcher in the Rye' and I became absorbed in the book- I brought it to school to read during recess... a teacher caught me and grilled me on it- she asked me if my parents knew I was reading it- the answer was 'yes, they suggested it to me'. When I started reading it I was skeptical that it would be any good, it had no aliens or space battles, but it drew me in... the teacher obviously disapproved, she told me not to show it to the other kids- naturally I had not planned to share it, but after the warning I made a point to do so... :) I was a difficult student.
