The war against religion is a war of demographics and population surges

The war against religion is a tough one, because the gains you make in one generation can be lost in the next simply by population growth around the world.

In Mexico, which is virulently Catholic, the onslaught of ten kid families are a great example of why the US is more religious now than in 1970. Meanwhile the atheist has 2.1 kids here in America and the rest is history.

Or in Europe, the agnostic Italians, Swedes, Germans and French have .7 kids per family while the Muslim immigrants have 3.5 kids - you tell me - how can agnosticism, atheism or its equivalents propagate over time? How can they compete against generations of indoctrinated religious kids?

Atheists are too smart for their own good.

This leads to another point most folks don't realize. The educational system is the only tool left to compensate for dying off, outnumbered atheists.

The gains made in the schools when atheism was at an all time high - after the world wars when LOTS of folks realized their gods didn't save anyone or answer any prayers, are now being lost. The American atheist kids of tomorrow will go to school outnumbered by Catholics 100:1, Mormons 15:1, Protestants 10:1 and will even find themselves outnumbered by survivor Witness of Jehovah's kids denied modern medicines by 3:1. They will have, statistically, no voice at all in government or popular culture.

So it will get far worse before it gets better. It will require another revolution of minds to get away from religion again in a major way. A 21st century religious war seems somewhat inevitable judging by statistics and religious ideosophies. The winner will be the one with the most kids who is the most ruthless. The losers of that conflict as well as the rest of the world will watch and "embrace" atheism and agnosticism in droves.
