re: Unwilling suspension of belief
To some degree, ufology is similiar to religion. It's based on a belief, and often that belief is chosen...
To my mind, that's a fairly damning statement. It seems to take "I Want to Believe" a step further, to "I Choose to Believe," from desire to decision, without regard for evidence (or lack thereof).
It smacks a little bit, I guess, of the Intelligent Design proponents, who place verification of their belief over objectivity. Crop circles, though often very imaginative and pretty, are only a bunch of bent plants until somebody can *prove* that their creation is fueled more by anti-matter than by alcohol.
