An interesting idea
Although obviously the concept is false from any objective standpoint, in terms of results, if everyone believes something, the social and other consequences are often indistinguishable from the premise being actually true.
People once thought tomatoes were poisonous. They weren't, but nobody ate tomatoes anyway.
